The Ambush
Nestled in for a good feeding, this gorgeous long-horned bee saddles up to the *perfect* black eyed susan flower. Using the finest of hairs covering its body, pollen collects while he dances around the surface, brushing and tumbling through every inch of it. Often called ‘Sun Bees’, these solitary insects spend their time napping on petals and pollinating our incredible native wildflowers.
but…wait.
Do you see her? There, just behind the bee. Tucked away like some deadly assassin. The ambush bug lies in wait - so still - with her mantis-like forelegs readying for action. Once the ambush begins, she will use her beak to pierce into the bee, secreting fluid that will dissolve their insides…effectively turning them into a bee-shaped juice box. To bee or not…to bee.
There is no question.
